The average median of the lowest temperature in the country during the cold moths of December and January decreased by around 2 degree Celsius this year as compared to previous years, according to the head of Meteorology department, Mr. Isaac Fisseha.
Asmara, 16 January 2011- The average median of the lowest temperature in the country during the cold moths of December and January decreased by around 2 degree Celsius this year as compared to previous years, according to the head of Meteorology department, Mr. Isaac Fisseha.
Mr. Isaac stated that the lowest average temperature was recoded at 4.2 degree Celsius in December 2011 and that the first 10 days of January had a temperature of 4.4 degrees, lower that the 6.1 average temperature that has been recorded for some years.
Indicating that the lower temperature levels can have an adverse effect on the people’s health, Mr. Isaac called for caution on the part of children and the elderly, as well as those traveling to the highlands from warmer areas.
Pointing out that temperature level at one point in January was recorded as low as 0.5 degrees, Mr. Isaac indicated that the cold weather could persist till mid-February as per satellite information.
Due to the cold and dense winds traveling from Siberia and Azeris towards the equator, Eritrea experiences a cold weather from mid October to February.
