Preserving Relics and Historical Sites Responsibility of the Public, Minister

The Minister of Tourism, Ms. Askalu Menkerios together with a number of experts and professionals in the field conducted a tour in the Southern Red Sea region aimed at preserving and documenting the tourisms assets of the country. Assab, 16 January 2011- The Minister of Tourism, Ms. Askalu Menkerios together with a number of experts and professionals in the field conducted a tour in the Southern Red Sea region aimed at preserving and documenting the tourisms assets of the country.

During a statement she made at a reception held for the group in Meka’eka’e, Ms. Askalu called on the public to take utmost care of the tourism assets in the country so that they are not destroyed due to lack of awareness.

The representative of the Administrator of the Southern Red Sea region, Mr. Kibrom Nerayo, on his part pointed out that the region is highly endowed with yet unexplored wealth and that it is one of the country’s important historical and tourist attraction sites. He also added that the tour will help increase the people’s awareness and promote domestic tourism.

The group that included professionals from all Ministries toured all the sub zones in the region and visited sites such as the Ras Loma- place where local chiefs signed an agreement with Italian Guissepe Sappeto in 1869, a Catholic church built in 1886, the port of Assab and other places.
