Introduction Of Modern Irrigation System Vital In Boosting Output, Says Administrator

The Administrator of Anseba region, Mr. Gergis Girmai, stressed the significance of introducing modern irrigation system in boosting production both in terms of quality and quantity, and thereby achieve food security.

Keren, 19 January 2011 – The Administrator of Anseba region, Mr. Gergis Girmai, stressed the significance of introducing modern irrigation system in boosting production both in terms of quality and quantity, and thereby achieve food security.

In a meeting he held in Keren with members of fruits and vegetables farmers association in the region, the Administrator urged the farming community to work hand-in-hand with agricultural experts in boosting production and supplying to the market at fair price through giving emphasis to strategic seeds.

Mr. Gergis further pointed out that achieving food security is the  priority of priorities and reminded the farmers to work in an association and boost fruits and vegetables production.

The chairman of the association, Mr. Lijam Tesfalidet, said on his part that the Association is striving to raise productivity and noted the significance of forming an association in securing both market and assistance.

The fruits and vegetables association in Anseba region has over 1,000 members from the sub-zones of Keren, Elabered, Adi-Tekelezan, Hagaz, Hamelmalo, Halhal, Habero, Geleb and Kerkebet.
