Encouraging activities are being carried out in South Denkalia sub-zone, Southern Red Sea region, towards achieving food security. Sireru, 22 January 2011 – Encouraging activities are being carried out in South Denkalia sub-zone, Southern Red Sea region, towards achieving food security.
Members of the farming community in Sireru administrative area explained that about 40 hectares of sorghum and maize have been put under cultivation in the area through traditional farming method. They further stated that the administrative area is suitable for agriculture and that the cultivated farmlands are in good condition.
The farmers further indicated that although the area is endowed with rich agricultural potentials, such resource has not been utilized for a long time due to lack of awareness and know-how. However, thanks to the support extended over the past couple of years, the local inhabitants are undertaking encouraging farming activities.
The Administrator of Sireru, Mr. Ahmed Mohammed, called on the Ministry of Agriculture to enhance assistance so as to properly harness the available agricultural potentials in the area.
