Public called upon to cautiously handle animal hides

The head of animal resource in Southern region, Dr. Ogbazgi  Kifle, called on the general public to cautiously handle animal hides as it could generate significant hard currency. Mendefera, 24 January 2011 – The head of animal resource in Southern region, Dr. Ogbazgi  Kifle, called on the general public to cautiously handle animal hides as it could generate significant hard currency.

He stressed the need for avoiding traditional practices to treat sick animals as it is making their skin out of use.  Noting that leather production in the region has increased by 50% in 2010, Dr. Ogbazgi urged the society in general and administrative areas in particular to enhance contribution in boosting leather production.

Meanwhile, the cultivation of animal feeds on about 5,000 hectares in Dubarwa, Mai-Mine, Areza, Adi-Keih, Segeneiti, Tsorona, Senafe, Mai-Aini and Dekemhare is yielding encouraging outcome. Dr. Ogbazgi further called on farmers to promote the cultivation of animal feed in their respective areas and back up animal vaccination program.
