Coordinated societal efforts imperative for preventing harmful practices

A meeting held in Foro semi-urban center, Northern Red Sea region, highlighted the need for undertaking stepped-up and coordinated endeavors towards uprooting harmful practices.
Foro, 25 January 2011 – A meeting held in Foro semi-urban center, Northern Red Sea region, highlighted the need for undertaking stepped-up and coordinated endeavors towards uprooting harmful practices.

In the meeting in which village elders, religious leaders, area administrators, national associations and employees participated, it was disclosed that raising awareness of the society, especially the youth is a prerequisite for preventing backward practices which is negatively affecting the health and mindset of individuals, especially females.

The head of agitation and information unit in the Health Ministry’s branch in the region, Ms. Amara Mohammed Ali, indicated that changes are being witnessed from time to time as a result of awareness raising campaign being undertaken through the coordination of various institutions and national associations.

The Administrator of Foro sub-zone, Mr. Omar Mohammed, on his part urged Area administrators to jointly work with village elders, religious leaders and the general public in combating harmful practices.
