Eritrean Cycling Team Scores Encouraging Result In Gabon Tour

The Eritrean national cycling team that is participating in the Gabon Tour scored encouraging results in the 105 Km.-long first stage race that took place yesterday.

Asmara, 26 January 2011 – The Eritrean national cycling team that is participating in the Gabon Tour scored encouraging results in the 105 Km.-long first stage race that took place yesterday.

Cyclist Daniel Teklehaimanot who is African Champion for his impressive victory in the Rwanda Tour participated in the race wearing “special championship shirt,” while various international media outlets are expressing deep admiration to the cyclist who is  highly expected to shine in the race at the African  level.

In the first stage of the race characterized with few uphill and extensive plains, Eritrean cyclists Meron Russom stood 8th, followed by Misgina Ogbazgi and Natnael Berhane, 9th and 10th respectively.  Also at the national level, the French club, FDJ, stood first, while the Eritrean national cycling team assumed 2nd rank.   

Also in yesterday’s race, cyclist Misgina Ogbazgi was awarded a shirt for being the “most aggressive rider of the first stage race” for his numerous attempts to outpace his rivals.

The Gabon Tour in which over 15 national teams and clubs are taking part would continue in the evening hours for the second  day.
