Adi-Quala, 26 January 2011 – The Fruits and Vegetables Farming Association in Adi-Quala sub-zone supplied over 8, 000 quintals of products to the market last year
At an assessment meeting, the Chairman of the Association, Mr. Mebrahtom Haile, stated that it has managed to tackle the problems encountered, besides creating fair market for their products and stabilizing the market.
He indicated that the Association has purchased 50 quintals of select seeds of potatoes and 13 quintals of select seeds of maize at fair price so as to encourage members. Mr. Mebrahtom further explained that it is acquiring experience through working closely with the regional Administration and the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone, and that it is now in a position to tackle shortcomings on the basis of internal capacity.
The head of administration and finance in the sub-zone, Mr. Tesfai Tsegai, on his part called on vegetable farmers to boost production through introducing modern farming techniques.
In the meeting, members of the association adopted a number of resolutions and recommendation highlighting the need to make available pesticides, fertilizers and farming tools.
The Fruits and Vegetables Farming Association in Adi-Quala sub-zone that has 250 members was established in 1998.
