Asmara, 26 January 2011 – Prices of basic construction materials have showed significant reduction compared to the prices on the last months of 2010.
Beneficiaries and businessmen told ERINA that the price of cement has declined from about 3,000 Nakfa to around 1,000 Nakfa per quintal, and a complete set of 6-kilo corrugated iron sheet dropped from 1,000 Nakfa to 650 Nakfa, among others.
They expressed satisfaction with the reduction of prices of various basic commodities and expressed conviction that the year 2011 would herald a promising era of prosperity.
The businessmen said on their part that with the decline of prices, their products are getting high demand and stated that a conducive ground has been created for the mutual benefit of both beneficiaries and businessmen. They further explained that the price of basic construction materials are expected to keep on declining with the prevailing promising prospects.
Meanwhile, the price of nets for the fencing of trees and others has increased, while no change has been witnessed in the price of paints and other small items.
Businessmen predict that the reduction being witnessed in the price of grains, consumption goods, construction materials and others would also register further decline in the coming months.
