Central region: Efforts underway to ensure provision of potable water supply

Efforts are underway to implement the plan drawn up to ensure the provision of adequate supply of potable water for the inhabitants of 84 villages in the Central region by 2015, stated Mr. Yemane Abai, head of project supervision in the regional Administration.

Asmara, 27 January 2011 – Efforts are underway to implement the plan drawn up to ensure the provision of adequate supply of potable water for the inhabitants of 84 villages in the Central region by 2015, stated Mr. Yemane Abai, head of project supervision in the regional Administration.

He said that a number of water supply projects operating through electricity and solar energy have so far been provided in different rural areas of the region, and as a result diseases caused by unsafe water have now declined.

Reports indicated that reliable water supply has been provided in the villages of Adi-Gombolo, Defere, Embeito and Kodadu at a total cost of over 10 million Nakfa, and that the construction of water supply facilities in Tselot and Adi-Hakefa are nearing finalization.

Likewise, water wells drilled in the villages of Aderada, Guritat, Durfo and Adi-Jin are expected to alleviate water shortage problems. Moreover, the renovation of wells in Lamza, Adi-Ke, Kushet, Hazega and Adi-Teklai would serve the same purpose.

According to Mr. Yemane, there are plan to ensure water supply to more than 15,000 local inhabitants in seven villages of the region at a cost of 35 million Nakfa this year.
