Asmara, 28 January 2011 – An Italian medical team expressed deep impression with the achievements Eritrea continues to register in putting in place health infrastructure through overcoming the challenges being encountered.
The head of the team, Prof. Ugo Livi who is professor of cardiac surgery in the University of UDINE, said that he visited Eritrea on several occasion to extend assistance and undertake surgery on Eritrean patients suffering from heart disease. He further explained that there exist conducive health infrastructure facilities in Eritrea to undertake any kind of surgery. Prof. Ugo stated that he continued to witness various developments in the health service during his visits.
Dr. Pavoni Daisy said on her part that the cardiac surgery carried out this week is the first of its kind in Eritrea which relieved patients who have been suffering for long due to low heart pulse.
Still another member of the Italian medical team, Dr. Pravisani Chiara, expert in Anesthesia Intensive Care, highly appraised the development accomplishments in the country and explained that exchange of experience was conducted with Eritrean doctors.
Likewise, the coordinator of the team, Dr. Alem Demoz, pointed out that on top of their professional assistance, the Italian doctors extended 8 quintals of medicaments.
Member of the medical team comprising 18 Italian doctors carried out a week-long cardiac surgery on 12 patients who have been suffering from heart problem for a long time.
