Gogne Sub-Zone Assesses Development Accomplishments

Gogne, 29 January 2011 – A meeting assessed the fruitful outcome of the major programs implemented in Gogne sub-zone last year with active popular participation.

In a meeting with the local inhabitants and area administrators, the Administrator of the sub-zone, Mr. Hadish Habte, outlined the tasks accomplished including the undertaking of various agricultural activities, construction and renovation of service-rendering institutions, as well as election of area administrators, among others.

A report presented at the meeting indicated that over 30 additional classrooms have been constructed at a cost of over 12 million Nakfa in the administrative areas of Mekanat, Asugien and Bishehat. A library is also under construction within the premises of Gogne Boarding School, and that student participation in education  has showed a growth of 62% thanks to the existing conducive teaching-learning process.

Also in line with efforts to promote soil and water conservation, over 8,000 tree seedlings have been planted through popular campaign, while fruits and vegetables farming on 500 hectares is yielding encouraging output. The reports further noted that over 5 million Nakfa has been extended in loan to farmers and businessmen in the sub-zone.

Mr. Hadish went on to say that action plan for 2011 focuses on enhancing the task of grouping scattered villages in one community and expanding social services.
