Efforts are being stepped up to ensure the supply of power across the country, according to Mr. Samuel Baire, the Director General of Power supply division at the Ministry of Energy and Mining.
Asmara, 30 January 2011 – Efforts are being stepped up to ensure the supply of power across the country, according to Mr. Samuel Baire, the Director General of Power supply division at the Ministry of Energy and Mining.
He stated that the Government is implementing large-scale projects to provide reliable power supply even in the remote areas of the country so as to provide alternative power source. In this respect, the Director General indicated that electricity supply was extended to 59 villages in 2010 alone and as a result over 100 villages become beneficiaries of the supply.
Moreover, Mr. Samuel explained that the Government is making relentless endeavors to ensure the supply of electricity, fuel and gas to remote areas of the country. There exists a plan to develop relevant infrastructure in the towns of Keren, Dekemhare, Mendefera and Barentu to promote the supply of gas, he added.
Reports disclosed that research is underway to expand and utilize solar, wind and other power sources.
