Inhabitants of Geleb sub-zone relieved of potable water supply problem

He told ERINA that within the past 20 years, micro-dams have been constructed in Marat, Gerbet, Geleb and Zen, in addition to the digging of wells in Geleb and Belta. Solar energy-generated potable water supply projects have also been implemented in Aibab, Mihlab and Kuruh thanks to the coordinated efforts of the people and the Government.

Moreover, 5 wells have been dug in Gerger, Aibaba, Chindiq, Metel-Habet and Habna, in addition to the construction of two water distribution stations below a micro-dam in Zen administrative area. Mr. Girmatsion further indicated that a well has been dug and a pond along with 5 distribution stations constructed in Gerbel, and that the installation of water pipelines is underway.

Reports indicated that two water reservoirs have been constructed in Chindiq and Geleb, and that a micro-dam is being constructed in Kaluq, besides the digging of 3 wells in Noret around Mihlab and 3 more wells in Gadmai and Belta. The newly dug wells are expected to irrigate a total of 200 hectares.

Mr. Girmatsion stated that there exists no lack of water resource at present for both drinking and agriculture purpose thanks to the implementation of the projects. Previously, the local inhabitants used to travel for long hours to fetch water that was not even up to standard.
