Barentu, 8 February 2011 – A new center has opened at a regional level to organize hearing-impaired nationals in Gash-Barka region, and thereby take active participation in the ongoing various activities.
During the inauguration ceremony, the head of the Ministry of Labor and Human Welfare’s branch in the region, Mr. Ephrem Kiflom, indicated that the opening of the center would play significant role in obtaining accurate information data regarding hearing-impaired individuals in the region. He further explained that the program is aimed at organizing the Deaf at the regional, sub-zonal and village levels so that they may make due contribution in all-round development endeavors.
Noting that there are a number of employees of community-based rehabilitation program in 14 sub-zones, he pointed out that the branch office would extend the necessary support in facilitating their activities.
The Chairman of the branch of the Eritrean Association for the Deaf in Gash-Barka region, Mr. Ogbamichael Tewolde, called on the general public and government institutions to back up the activities of the center. The Center would strive to provide training, education and other opportunities to members through strengthening organizational capacity.
