Mendefera, 8 February 2011 – Assembly members, heads of government institutions and associations in the Southern region highlighted the need for taking concerted action in fostering close relations between the public and the police force so as to effectively prevent crimes and accidents.
In opinions they put forth at a seminar conducted by the Commander of the Eritrean Police, Col. Mehari Tsegai, they pledged to undertake enhanced campaign in a bid to reinforce popular participation in such activities. They also stressed the need for upgrading the competence of police force.
Col. Mehari pointed out that the noble values of the Eritrean society coupled with increased awareness of law would play vital role in crippling criminal acts. He further explained that although there exist no crimes that are a serious issue of concern, coordinated endeavors on the part of all institutions is nonetheless imperative for controlling some incidents of crime.
