Assab, 9 February 2011 – An artistic campaign aimed at promoting equal female participation in education was undertaken in 4 sub-zones of the Southern Red Sea region.
The campaign organized by the cultural affairs section of the Education Ministry featured various dramas, music, songs and seminar towards avoiding societal factors hindering women from education.
The coordinator of the program, Mr. Tewolde Gebremariam, indicated that although expansion of education in remote areas on a priority basis is bearing fruitful outcome, female participation in education in the region at the junior and secondary level in particular is not proceeding as desired. He further explained that the artistic campaign undertaken by the Barito Banta cultural troupe is getting wide acceptance on the part of the society.
In expression of their support to the continuity of the campaign, the local inhabitants contributed a total of 80 goats and 55,000 Nakfa in cash, according to reports.
