Commemorative events of the 21st anniversary of Operation Fenkil got underway today under the theme: “Fenkil: Apiary of Eritrean Independence.”
Massawa, 11 February 2011 – Commemorative events of the 21st anniversary of Operation Fenkil got underway today under the theme: “Fenkil: Apiary of Eritrean Independence.”
The Secretary of the PFDJ, Mr. Al-Amin Mohammed Seid opened an arts exhibition in the morning hours portraying the two faces of Massawa, i.e. the damage sustained and the tasks accomplished in reconstruction endeavors of the port city. The PFDJ Secretary, accompanied by the Administrator of the Northern Red Sea region, Ms. Tsegereda Woldegergish, senior government and PFDJ officials, observed the exhibitions.
Besides, recital regarding the historic Operation Salina of 1977 was presented by veteran fighter Tiebe Russom. She indicated that the history of Operation Salina is an integral part of the heroic feats demonstrated by the Eritrean people in general and the youth in particular, and as such this legacy needs to be properly bequeathed to the present young generation.
Meanwhile, various sports and arts programs are being featured in the course of the commemorative events.
The official commemoration ceremony of the 21st anniversary of Operation Fenkil would be conducted in the afternoon hours tomorrow, according to the preparatory committee.
