A new high school and other additional 15 classrooms are under construction in Mendefera town at a cost of over 18 million Nakfa with a view to tackling shortage of sufficient secondary schools.
Mendefera, 11 February 2011 – A new high school and other additional 15 classrooms are under construction in Mendefera town at a cost of over 18 million Nakfa with a view to tackling shortage of sufficient secondary schools.
The new school is equipped with 20 classrooms, while the 15 additional classrooms along with restrooms are being constructed in San Giorgio Secondary School, according to Mr. Yemane Teklu, head of housing construction projects in Bidho Construction Company.
The supervisor of the project, Eng. Tewoldemedhin Mihreteab, said on his part that the construction process is expected to be finalized this year and would provide service in the next academic year.
Reports indicated that San Giorgio Secondary School has been facing lack of enough classrooms and that the construction of additional classrooms would make due contribution in alleviating the problem.
There are 26 high schools, 86 junior schools and 239 elementary schools, as well as 142 kindergartens and community daycare centers in the Southern region providing educational opportunities to more than 200,000 nationals.
