Development Projects To Be Implemented In Eco-Friendly Manner

The head of infrastructure development in the Anseba region, Mr. Gebru Haile stated that all development projects should take environmental health into consideration and as such basic studies need to be conducted before implementation.
Keren, 13 February 2011- The head of infrastructure development in the Anseba region, Mr. Gebru Haile stated that all development projects should take environmental health into consideration and as such basic studies need to be conducted before implementation.

In a statement he made at a conference in Keren regarding the impact of development projects on the environment, Mr. Gebru emphasized that collaborative studies should be conducted so that development projects could give due consideration to the environment.

The objective of the conference was to promote awareness about the environment as well as to find ways of avoiding any environment hazards development projects might inflict beforehand.

The head of Environment at the Ministry of Land, Water and Environment, Mr. Mussie Tesfahiwot stressed the paramount role of the public in preserving wildlife and pointed out that underground water sources, tourist attraction sites, archeological sites as well as big trees should be given due attention during implementation of projects.

The participants of the conference on their part forwarded recommendations that include consulting with local residents before embarking on a project and particular attention to be given to projects implemented by contractors.
