Massawa Inhabitants Commemorate Operation Fenkil In Communal Tents

As part of the festivities commemorating the 21st anniversary of the Operation Fenkil, the residents of Massawa, celebrated the event in community tents in three district administrations.

Massawa, 13 February 2011-  As part of the festivities commemorating the 21st anniversary of the Operation Fenkil, the residents of Massawa, celebrated the event in community tents in three district administrations.

Residents of the port city, Ms. Meriem Mengisteab and Ms. Zeineb Adem stated that the celebration of the historic event conveys an important message to the young generation and that this year’s celebrations are being held at a more elevated stage of the country’s history. The fact that the Eritrean people foiled all conspiracies against them as a united force demonstrates their strength and resilience, the two women added.

Another resident, Father Protazio Dolfin on his part called on the entire Eritrean people to uphold the pledge of the martyrs and strengthen the existing culture of mutual respect and tolerance.

Meanwhile, the sports activities underway as part of the commemorations are continuing with enthusiastic sprit. The sports activities that are in the final phases include camel and cycling races, football and handball, traditional sports as well as sea coast sports.

Furthermore, the Gergusum beach is brimming with visitors from inside and outside the country.
