She’ib, 18 February 2011 – Members of the farming community in She’ib sub-zone voiced readiness to enhance the construction of embankments and terraces, and thereby boost agricultural production.
The chairman of farmers association in the sub-zone, Mr. Mohammed-Nur Mussa Hamid, explained that the members took active role in the construction and renovation of water catchments and embankments so as to reinforce efforts to achieve food security. They have also raised about 770,000 Nakfa for deploying machinery for tackling difficult tasks.
A trust fund of the association for renovating damaged water catchments has so far accumulated 2 million Nakfa with a view to backing up the Government’s endeavors to construct solid water diversion schemes.
The participants of the meeting highlighted the need for constructing machinery-backed water catchments so as to ensure their sustainability. The She’ib farmers association has about 3,700 members, including 572 women.
