President Isaias holds talks with OIC Secretary General

President Isaias Afwerki today received and held talks with the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Conference, Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu.

Asmara, 19 February 2011 – President Isaias Afwerki today received and held talks with the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Conference, Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu.

In the meeting at the State Palace, the President gave detailed briefings on the implementation of development programs in Eritrea and the prevailing situation in the region. Moreover, he put forth views on ways and means in which the Organization of Islamic Conference could play due role in political and development programs in Eritrea and the surroundings. President Isaias also asserted Eritrea’s readiness to foster cooperation with the organization in various domains.

The OIC Secretary General told ERINA following the meeting that the briefings the President gave regarding development programs in Eritrea and the objective situation in Africa as a whole, especially the Horn region enabled him to deepen his understanding.  Prof. Ekmeleddin further explained that he got the opportunity of giving briefings as regards the state of affairs of the Organization of Islamic Conference and its political, economic and social activities, and that he was satisfied with President Isaias’ observations.
