Public Role Described Vital In Combating Harmful Traditional Practices

The branch office of the Ministry of Health in Gash-Barka region highlighted the important role of the general public in combating harmful traditional practices against women especially in pregnant mothers.

Barentu, 24 February 2011 – The branch office of the Ministry of Health in Gash-Barka region highlighted the important role of the general public in combating harmful traditional practices against women especially in pregnant mothers.
In a lecture offered in the sub-zones of Tessenei, Barentu and Agordat regarding mother and child safety, the need to avoid harmful traditional practices was emphasized in view of its negative influence on females.
The head of the branch office in the region, Mr. Gilay Kahsai, called for combating harmful traditional practices and encouragign pregnant mothers to deliver under medical treatments as it is the responsibility of the society at large to ensure mother and child safety.
