Southern Region: Popular Campaigns Playing Paramount Role In Speeding Up Development Drive

The implementation of various activities including soil and water conservation, renovation of roads, sanitation campaign, construction of dams and extending assistance to martyrs families in the Southern region through popular campaign is playing paramount role in speeding up development drive, Mr. Tedros Tekle, director of Administrator’s office in the region.

Mendefera, 25 February 2011 – The implementation of various activities including soil and water conservation, renovation of roads, sanitation campaign, construction of dams and extending assistance to martyrs families in the Southern region through popular campaign is playing paramount role in speeding up development drive, Mr. Tedros Tekle, director of Administrator’s office in the region.

He explained that popular campaign has been conducted in the past three years in which over 600 inhabitants participated, and as a result 1,100 Km-long feeder roads were renovated, besides the construction of about 3,300 Km of terraces.

Moreover, construction of school fences, extending support to teachers and martyrs’ families, and maintain social services are being undertaken in an effective manner. Mr. Tedros further reminded the local inhabitants to actively participate in reforestation programs and tree preservation.
