Mendefera, 26 February 2011 – In a meeting the branch office of the Education Ministry in Southern region held from February 22 to 23, it was disclosed that the sprite of competition and commitment among students would enable them to demonstrate academic excellence.
In the meeting in which school directors, supervisors, sub-zonal administrators and partners took part in Mendefera town, it was disclosed that the student enrollment in schools has increased by more than 10,000 and the number of students who passed to the next level has registered 9.5% growth.
The head of the branch office, Mr. Kalab Tesfaslasie, explained that parents growing desire to send their children to school, teacher’s and government continued incentives are among factors that are encouraging students to demonstrate excellence in the academic pursuit. He also stressed the need to address shortage of classrooms, teachers and textbooks taking into account the growing number of students.
The participant of the meeting on their part adopted a number of resolutions and recommendations highlighting the need for parents to supervise their children, providing training to new teachers and conducting campaigns towards combating female dropout.
The Administrator of Southern region, Mr. Mustafa Nurhusen, reminded teachers to take pride on their profession, and reiterated the Administration’s readiness to extend the necessary support to ensure quality education.
