Eritrean Civil Aviation Registers Achievements In Efforts To Ensure Safe Air Transport

The Eritrean Civil Aviation Department has carried out successful tasks in terms air-space surveillance, securing air traffic safety, introducing modern equipment and upgrading manpower, according to the Director General of the department in the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Mr. Paulos Kahsai. He made the statement in an interview he conducted with ERINA in connection with symposium of the Ministry currently underway in Mendefera.

Asmara, 2 March 2011 – The Eritrean Civil Aviation Department has carried out successful tasks in terms air-space surveillance, securing air traffic safety, introducing modern equipment and upgrading manpower, according to the Director General of the department in the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Mr. Paulos Kahsai. He made the statement in an interview he conducted with ERINA in connection with symposium of the Ministry currently underway in Mendefera.

 

Mr. Paulos said that no accident has thus far taken place in air transport and that satisfactory income has been collected through tax duty of flights passing through Eritrean air space. He also pointed out that the Government has carried out various renovation works to improve the infrastructure of the Asmara International Airport, besides introducing equipments that ensure safety of aviation.

Furthermore, the Director General said that the Massawa International Airport which is expected to make due contribution in the economic progress of the nation was constructed at substantial expenditure. He also added that heavy cargo boarding services have also began which were previously unavailable due to the air pressure around Asmara.

Mr. Kahsai finally indicated that, upgrading human resources, strengthening relations with other international airports, establishing clear rules and regulations include some of the department’s future plans.
