The Eritrean Sports Commission is making utmost preparations to organize different international and national sports competitions in connection with the 20th anniversary of Independence Day, according to Maj. General Romodan Osman Awliyay, sports commissioner.
Asmara, 12 March 2011 – The Eritrean Sports Commission is making utmost preparations to organize different international and national sports competitions in connection with the 20th anniversary of Independence Day, according to Maj. General Romodan Osman Awliyay, sports commissioner.
In briefings he gave to local journalists, he indicated that soccer teams from neighboring countries are invited to take part in the competitions, and teams from Sudan, Egypt and Qatar have already asserted readiness to participate.
Maj. General Romodan further pointed out that the necessary preparations are underway, including the renovation of sports fields with a view to accommodating East African Athletics competition scheduled to be held from April 29 to 30.
The Eritrean Sports Commission would also conduct a symposium highlighting the nation’s sports journey and the achievements registered to date so as to add color to the Independence Day celebrations, he added.
