A new micro-dam being constructed in Rokoito

A new micro-dam is under construction in Rokoita, Senafe sub-zone, at an expenditure of about 4.5 million Nakfa with a view to easing potable water supply problem in the area. Senafe, 18 March 2011 – A new micro-dam is under construction in Rokoita, Senafe sub-zone, at an expenditure of about 4.5 million Nakfa with a view to easing potable water supply problem in the area.

The project is being implemented jointly by the Southern regional Administration and partners, and that 80% of the task has been accomplished, according to Eng. Zerit Gebrai, supervisor of the project.

The head of the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone, Mr. Gideon Mengesha, indicated on his part that the local inhabitants are taking active participation in the undertaking. The construction of the micro-dam is expected to promote irrigation farming on about 200 hectares, beyond tackling the existing potable water supply problem in the locality. 

The Administrator of Senafe sub-zone, Mr. Bereket Tekeste, called on the inhabitants to keep on constructing embankments and terraces around the micro-dam.

The micro-dam is expected to provide potable water supply to the inhabitants of Rokoito, Adi-Nigdio, Dematsi, Adi-Hazo Adika, Menbero, Sagla, Gul’e and Mai-Gundi.
