The efforts being exerted to raise the awareness and participation of women in the national development drive are bearing fruitful outcome, according to Ms. Naila Abdalla, head of NUEW branch in Mogolo sub-zone.
Mogolo, 18 March 2011 – The efforts being exerted to raise the awareness and participation of women in the national development drive are bearing fruitful outcome, according to Ms. Naila Abdalla, head of NUEW branch in Mogolo sub-zone.
In a meeting with the inhabitants of Shiglet administrative area, she explained that the Union is striving to strengthen organizational capacity even in remote areas through implementing women-centered programs. In this connection, Ms. Naila said that education and training programs focusing on mother and child care are being offered.
She further pointed out that various activities aimed at improving women’s living standards have been carried out at an expenditure of over 260,000 Nakfa. Accordingly, livestock resources have been extended in assistance to 50 women breadwinners, while 20 mothers received training on weaving. Besides, various types of support were extended to 100 needy students so as to avoid school dropout due to economic problem.
The head of NUEW in Gash-Barka region, Ms. Saliha Adim, said on her part that the Union would enhance endeavors to ensure active women’s participation in all domains.
