Development accomplishments in Elabered sub-zone outlined

The tasks accomplished as regards agricultural development and the putting in place of service-rendering institutions in Elabered sub-zone are the outcome of the coordinated endeavors exerted by the people and the Government over the past 20 years, stated Ms. Genet Afwerki, head of social service in the sub-zone.
Elabered, 21 March 2011 – The tasks accomplished as regards agricultural development and the putting in place of service-rendering institutions in Elabered sub-zone are the outcome of the coordinated endeavors exerted by the people and the Government over the past 20 years, stated Ms. Genet Afwerki, head of social service in the sub-zone.

She explained that effective soil and water conservation activities have been carried out in all administrative areas that made tangible contribution in boosting production. Ms. Genet further noted the achievements registered in the expansion of social services, including education, health and modernization of rural areas.

Also in line with efforts to ensure the provision of reliable potable water supply, a total of 22 wells have been dug and 13 micro-dams and water reservoirs constructed. Besides, 12 major ponds and 34 water distribution stations along with water pipelines have been put in place in Eden, She’ib-Seleba, Deki-Andu, Wasdemba, Halib-Mentel, Dembe-Habtestion, Hadish-Adi and Yigiar.   As a result, 90% of the population in the sub-zone have become beneficiaries of potable water supply, Ms. Genet added.

Reports indicated that a number of road networks running to all administrative areas have been constructed, thus enabling the public to get better access to transport service. Moreover, a 24-hour electricity service has been made available in the villages of Debresina, She’ib-Seleba, Teronkua, Eden, Halib-Mentel, Guish and Hadish-Adi.

Ms. Genet further explained  that there exist 40 schools in Elabered sub-zone ranging from  kindergarten to secondary level , in addition to 3 heath stations and a community hospital.
