Construction of strategic roads major accomplishment in Northern Red Sea region

The strategic road networks constructed in different parts of Northern Red Sea region over the past 20 years played major role in ensuring equitable expansion of social services, as well as reinforcing economic development endeavors, stated Mr. Tewolde Dirar, head of land transport in the region.

Massawa, 22 March 2011 – The strategic road networks constructed in different parts of Northern Red Sea region over the past 20 years played major role in ensuring equitable expansion of social services, as well as reinforcing economic development endeavors, stated Mr. Tewolde Dirar, head of land transport in the region.

Outlining the tangible outcome of efforts to promote social justice and improve the people’s living standard, he pointed out that the construction of Massawa-Gulbub road and Massawa-Embereni-Wekiro route have relieved the public from the previously existing acute transport problem.

Mr. Tewolde further explained that the construction of the strategic Kohaito-Foro road constitutes a turning point in the urbanization of the 10 adjacent villages. Besides the feeder roads, routes linking other regions have also been constructed, he added.

He indicated that over 20 transportation lines have been set up along Massawa-Asmara, Massawa-Ti’o, Massawa-She’ib, Massawa-Ginda, Massawa-Emberemi, Massawa-Hirgigo routes, among others in which about 100 big and small buses are rendering service. The transport service being provided by Harat Transport Company at fair price is also making significant contribution in easing transport problem, Mr. Tewolde elaborated.
