Coverage of education service in Anseba region stands at 85%

The coverage of education service in Anseba region has increased from 38% previously to over 85% at present as a result of the coordinated endeavors made over the past 20 years.

Keren, 22 March 2011 – The coverage of education service in Anseba region has increased from 38% previously to over 85% at present as a result of the coordinated endeavors made over the past 20 years.

The head of the Education Ministry’s branch in the region, Mr. Bokretsion Habtemichael, told ERINA that before independence there used to exist only 38 schools in limited area. In the post-independence period, however, 94% of the population in the region has become beneficiaries of educational opportunity, at least at the elementary level.

Highlighting the commendable growth registered in female participation in education, he stated that out of the 84,000 students, about 37,000 are females, and that the awareness of the society regarding education is on the rise. The number of teachers has equally shown growth of 500%.

Reports indicated that there are 76 kindergartens, 136 elementary, 54 junior and 12 secondary schools in Anseba region, in addition to the Hamelmalo College of Agriculture and the Hagaz Agricultural Technical  School.
