Halhale Agricultural Research Center undertaking significant tasks

The Halhale National Agricultural Research Institute which is registering commendable accomplishment in efforts to achieve food security, as part of the endeavors made over the past 20 years, according to Dr. Eyasu Gebretatios, head of the Institute and human resource development.

Halhale, 2 April 2011 – The Halhale National Agricultural Research Institute which is registering commendable accomplishment in efforts to achieve food security, as part of the endeavors made over the past 20 years, according to Dr. Eyasu Gebretatios, head of the Institute and human resource development.

He stated that the institute has been transformed into a competitive one which could fulfill farmers’ needs in a scientific manner as a result of the Government’s substantial investment. In this respect, Dr. Eyasu noted that it is making vital contribution in boosting farming  products.

He further explained that in line with the research undertaken, 12 different types of sorghum and 2 types of beans have been prepared that are suitable in the highlands, semi-highlands and lowlands. The Institute also played major role in making available the supply of various seeds.

Moreover, Dr. Eyasu indicated that it would distribute highly nutritious potatoes to the farming community, besides supplying palm date, banana and the like in the near future.  He also outlined its contribution in making available seeds that fit with the weather of the country, introducing modern farming techniques and encouraging farmers to utilize select seeds.

He called on farmers to put forth views and observations concerning the newly researched seeds so as to obtain better outcome. The Halhale National Agricultural Research Institute would strive in tackling shortage of animal feed, boosting milk production and ensuring animal health, among others, Dr. Eyasu added.
