Study Papers Regarding Agricultural Research And Control Of National Resources Presented In Ministry Of Agriculture’s Symposium
Research papers that outline the results registered in agricultural endeavors in the past 20 years have been presented at the symposium of the Ministry of Agriculture.
Barentu, 5 April 2011- Research papers that outline the results registered in agricultural endeavors in the past 20 years have been presented at the symposium of the Ministry of Agriculture.
In a paper he presented at the meeting, the Director General of the Human Resources Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Eyasu Gebretatiyos, stated that the Government of Eritrea set up research centers in Halhale, Golij and Shieb back in 1994 that are registering commendable results at the moment in agricultural development.
Further outlining that the Agricultural Research Department is working to improve agricultural harvest through the introduction of technological innovations, Dr. Eyasu added that 30 varieties of crops, 16 kinds of vegetables and 17 new fruit variations have already been distributed to farmers with good results.
Moreover, in a study paper he presented, the Director of the Control of National Resources Department, Mr. Estifanos Beyn, disclosed that a lot of work has been done in combating desertification and reforesting of 30% of
Eritrean landmass as well as the construction of large water catchments and the planting of 96 million tree seedlings, in addition to the roads and numerous compounds that are making tremendous contribution in boosting the wildlife of the nation.
Mr. Estifanos further said that in the previous 20 years, an area totaling 276,000 hectares has been fortified against erosion which has registered commendable results. The task of mapping the soil types of the nation and introducing an eco-friendly smokeless oven are some of the tasks that will be carried in the coming 5 years, he added.
