Dr. Teklezgi Tekie, in charge of livestock health in the region, said that during the past 20 years 7.2 million animals have been vaccinated against diseases, and that vaccination against parasites was provided to some 9.5 million livestock.
Indicating that there exist 14 animal health centers in Gash-Barka, he stated that the vaccination campaigns were carried out through deploying veterinary experts to the areas of farming communities.Mr. Seltene Berhe, expert in animal health, indicated on his part that 11 dairy farmers associations have been formed with a view to raising dairy production output, while 182 thousand chickens and over 3,000 modern bee hives have been distributed to members.
Moreover, the water reservoirs and catchment areas put in place are making impressive contribution to the task of ensuring food security, he further explained.
