NUEWS Anseba Branch Registers Commendable Outcome

The National Union of Eritrean Women branch in Anseba region has registered commendable outcome in the past 20 years as regards improving the livelihood of women in the region, stated Ms Alem Belay, head of the NUEW in Anseba region. Keren, 6 April 2011 – The National Union of Eritrean Women branch in Anseba region has registered commendable outcome in the past 20 years as regards improving the livelihood of women in the region, stated Ms Alem Belay, head of the NUEW in Anseba region.

She told ERINA that the exploitation and oppression Eritrean women were subjected to in the days of colonial rule is now no more and that they gratifying outcome has been registered in endeavors to ensure their complete emancipation. To this end, the National Union of Eritrean Women (NUEW), in collaboration with partners, has implemented diverse programs towards upgrading women’s living standard; Ms. Alem elaborated.

The NUEW branch head further indicated that the Union’s branch office in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, has financed an office and training center in the subzones of Asmat and Adi Tekelezan at a total expenditure of 2 million Nakfa. Moreover, the NUEW branch office in Italy extended assistance amounting to 20 million Nakfa for the construction of a similar training center in Keren town that has already been finalized, Ms. Alem added.

The NUEW branch head in Anseba region also pointed out that a number of women have received training in diverse fields so as to improve their standard of living, while others have been rehabilitated in the form of assistance in farming implements and agricultural equipments.
