Reserves in Eastern Escarpment of Semenawi Bahri vital for ensuring animal feed: Administrator

In a meeting he conducted with representatives of 28 villages of Serejeka sub-zone, the Administrator of the Central region, Mr. Kahsai Gebrehiwot, highlighted the importance of reserves in the Eastern Escarpment of Semenawi Bahri for ensuring animal feed.

Serejeka, 7 April 2011 – In a meeting he conducted with representatives of 28 villages of Serejeka sub-zone, the Administrator of the Central region, Mr. Kahsai Gebrehiwot, highlighted the importance of reserves in the Eastern Escarpment of Semenawi Bahri for ensuring animal feed.

In a briefing he gave as regards the reserves and climate of Semenawi Bahri, the Administrator pointed out that the Government has designated the area as reserve taking into account the long-term development plan at the national level, the benefit of farming community and reinforcing agricultural transformation drive.

Pointing out that research is underway on the subject through the setting up of committees at the regional and sub-zonal level, Mr. Kahsai called on farmers in the area to work for the effective implementation of the program.

It was also disclosed at the meeting that the Central regional Administration is striving to carry out extensive agricultural projects in all the villages and that over 1.5 million tree seedlings have been made ready for plantation during the rainy season.

The Administrator further called on farmers in Serjeka sub-zone and villages in the Semenawi Bahri in particular to make optimal use of water resources obtained thanks two-season rainfall. He also confirmed the readiness of the Government and the regional Administration to extend the necessary support.
