Shambko sub-zone: Effective implementation of agricultural and trade programs playing vital role in upgrading inhabitants’ standard of living

The effective implementation of agricultural and trade programs since the achievement of independence in Shambko sub-zone, Gash-Barka region, is playing vital role in upgrading the living standard of the inhabitants, stated Mr. Habte Mihreteab,  head of economic development in the sub-zone .

Shambko, 9 April 2011 – The effective implementation of agricultural and trade programs since the achievement of independence in Shambko sub-zone, Gash-Barka region, is playing vital role in upgrading the living standard of the inhabitants, stated Mr. Habte Mihreteab,  head of economic development in the sub-zone .
He indicated that vast plain areas in the sub-zone were put under cultivation through the deployment of tractors, and that select seeds were distributed to the farming community, besides the expansion of fruits and vegetables farming as part of endeavors to develop modern farming method.  Mr. Habte also explained that vaccination programs for livestock were carried out and two micro-dams, as well as 11 ponds were put in place.
As regards reactivating trade activities, he said that more than 260 business enterprises and service-rendering institutions were opened that are making due contribution in meeting public demand.
Meanwhile, the opening of village banks in 18 villages within the frame work of saving and micro-credit program has enabled over 1,500 citizens to become beneficiaries and engage in various business ventures
