Hagaz, 10 April 2011- As part of the Government’s efforts to provide equal access to education in all parts of the country, satisfactory progress has been registered in the town of Hagaz, reports indicated.
According to the head of the Education Ministry branch in Hagaz sub zone, Mr. Saleh Ibrahim, there were only two schools in the town prior to independence. However, owing to the investments made in the sector in the past 20 years, the number of schools in Hagaz ranging from elementary to secondary levels has risen by 250% and student enrollment has increased to 5,000.
Mr. Saleh further indicated that there are two kindergartens and one agricultural technical school in the sub zone. Before the construction of the schools in Hagaz, students promoted to junior level were compelled to travel to other areas to continue their studies while others simply dropped out, he added.
The administrator of Hagaz sub zone, Mr. Mohammed Gu’elay on his part said that an additional secondary school is being constructed in the sub zone taking into consideration the rising level of student enrollment. He also added that female participation in schools is on the rise.
