Asmara, April 15, 2011- Development endeavors carried out from time to time in the country have increased access to potable water by 85%, stated the general director of water resources in the Ministry of Land, Water and Environment, Mr. Mebrahtu Eyasu.
Noting that water is life, Mr. Eyasu said that efforts to conserve water resources from pollution through concerted resource management systems have been accomplished over the past 20 years.
He further explained that 85% of the nation’s potable water is obtained from underground reserves and 15% from ground level reservoirs.
Mr. Mebrahtu also explained that as a result of the endeavors made to-date, access to potable water has registered a tremendous leap of 77% in the rural areas and 95% in urban centers.
