Asmara, April 26, 2011- Papers on the activities of the Infrastructure Department, importance of dams, the process of development of engineering and architectural works, as well as the enforcement of construction standards were presented today.
In the paper he presented outlining the activities of the Infrastructure Department, Eng. Kidane Berhane, noted the endeavors made over the past 20 years aimed at laying wide-ranging modern infrastructure facilities and that over 15,000 Km.-long roads were constructed.
Likewise, Eng. Rezene Abraha, director of water resources infrastructure, explained that microdams in the different corners of the country have played vital role in ensuring potable water supply, higher agricultural yield, preventing flooding and the like.
By the same token, Mr. Habteab Tesfatsion, in charge of construction and engineering companies, outlined the development and accomplishments registered in this domain to date.
Also in a presentation focusing on engineering works, the director heading such activities, Eng. Haddish Tesfamichael, explained the work carried out to reactivate the war-torn systems of infrastructure inherited from colonial days, socio-economic services and the operation of factories as well as related establishments. In this regard, due attention was given to the task of preparing designs for residential complexes, raising the availability of construction materials and importing modern technological devices among others.
Still more, Eng. Dawit Fitsame, head of Administration and Contracts Unit stated that valuable experience has been acquired since independence as regards accomplishments registered in this domain.
Moreover, Eng. Misgun Abraha, director of Control and Contracts in the Ministry highlighted endeavors made in the preparation and streamlining of documents exercising control over construction materials and relatred tasks.
