Fruits And Vegetables Farmers In Tessenei Sub-Zone To Boost Production

The Administrator of Tessenei sub-zone, Mr. Tekleberhan Gebrewoldi, called on fruits and vegetables farmers, as well as the ones engaged in crop cultivation to strive for obtaining bumper harvest and strengthening their association.
Tessenei, 27 April 2011 – The Administrator of Tessenei sub-zone, Mr. Tekleberhan Gebrewoldi, called on fruits and vegetables farmers, as well as the ones engaged in crop cultivation to strive for obtaining bumper harvest and strengthening their association.

Speaking at the annual congress of the farmers’ association in the sub-zone, he indicated that irrigation farming is gaining momentum from year to year, and that over 1,600 hectares have been put under irrigation farming at present on the part of about 150 farmers.

Noting that mismanagement practices have been hindering the development of the association, Mr. Tekleberhan urged members to step up efforts for increased agricultural output both in terms of quality and quantity.

Also in a report he presented at the congress, the chairman of fruits and vegetables producing cooperatives in the sub-zone, Mr. Andemeskel Gebreyesus, called on them to strive for raising the capital of the association. He also urged them to promote animal husbandry.
