Halhal Sub-Zone: Efforts To Boost Agricultural Output Bearing Encouraging Outcome

Efforts to boost agricultural production  both in terms of quality and quantity in Halhal sub-zone through introducing irrigation farming are bearing encouraging outcome, according to Mr. Futsum Senai, expert in fruits and vegetables farming in the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone. Halhal, 29 April 2011 – Efforts to boost agricultural production  both in terms of quality and quantity in Halhal sub-zone through introducing irrigation farming are bearing encouraging outcome, according to Mr. Futsum Senai, expert in fruits and vegetables farming in the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone.

He pointed out that a number of micro-dams and water reservoirs have been constructed in the sub-zone at  substantial government investment that are making significant contribution in promoting fruits and vegetables farming activities. 

Noting that there are a total of 118 farmers engaged in fruits and vegetables farming on 90 hectares, Mr. Futsum explained that their products are being supplied to the markets in Keren and Asmara, beyond satisfying the demand of the sub-zone. In this respect, he indicated that study has been  undertaken to  put over 1000 hectares under cultivation through modern farming method in Mai-Awalid, Melebso and Halhal.
