Inhabitants of Geleb sub-zone witnessing socio-economic wellbeing

The Administrator of Geleb sub-zone, Mr. Tekleberhan Mihreteab, stated that the development programs implemented over the past 20 years have brought about noticeable improvement in the socio-economic wellbeing of the inhabitants. Geleb, 9 May 2011 – The Administrator of Geleb sub-zone, Mr. Tekleberhan Mihreteab, stated that the development programs implemented over the past 20 years have brought about noticeable improvement in the socio-economic wellbeing of the inhabitants.

He pointed out that concerted action has been taken to regroup scattered villages, and as such major urban centers have been set up with visible urbanization. Various service-rendering institutions and infrastructure facilities have been put in place that are providing better service to the inhabitants.

Mr. Tekleberhan further indicated that there exist 23 educational institutions ranging from kindergarten to secondary level, in addition to the construction of 20 wells and 3 water reservoirs.

Moreover, a modern potable water supply project involving 4 big ponds and 24 water distribution stations has been implemented in the administrative areas of Geleb, Aibaba, Mihlab and Kiruh. As a result, 80% of the population in the sub-zone have got access to potable water supply, Mr. Tekleberhan added.  He also said that reserve area has been designated on 22  hectares so as to promote forestry and wildlife resources.

Geleb sub-zone that comprises 11 administrative areas is inhabited by over 40,000 people.
