The two-day Symposium of the Central region in Asmara concluded today. Asmara, 11 May 2011 – The two-day Symposium of the Central region in Asmara concluded today.
In a closing speech, the regional Administrator, Mr. Kahsai Gebrehiwet, said that the symposium played due role in assessing the weak and strong points of the tasks accomplished over the past 20 years.
Noting that the principle of self-reliance is the sole option in the multifaceted development drive, he stressed the need for enhanced popular participation so as to make the region hub of investment. Mr. Kahsai further indicated that provision of efficient services to the public is one of the future plans of the regional Administration.
Various study papers were presented at the symposium highlighting the administrative structure of the region, introduction of information system, expansion of transport service in rural and urban areas, among others.
Discussion was also conducted on efforts to provide potable water supply in both rural and urban centers, agricultural activities towards achieving food security, expanding educational opportunity and health services.
