The Minister of Labor and Human Welfare, Ms. Salma Hassen, said that wide-ranging tasks were undertaken to promote social security over the past 20 years since independence.
Asmara, 11 May 2011 – The Minister of Labor and Human Welfare, Ms. Salma Hassen, said that wide-ranging tasks were undertaken to promote social security over the past 20 years since independence.
In an interview she conducted in connection with symposium of the Ministry due to take place from May 12 to 14, Ms. Salma indicated that the necessary groundwork has been laid that enables nationals to avoid dependency and become self-reliant. In this connection, she outlined the various tasks accomplished by the departments of labor, social security and social welfare, as well as care centers for the needy, in addition to production institutions.
The Minister further pointed out that up to 330 million Nakfa is disbursed annually towards assisting families of fallen heroes, and that Eritrean citizens at home and abroad are making major contribution in this regard.
She also highlighted the Ministry’s future work program concerning upgrading of competence regarding employee inspection and strengthening development programs, among others.
