Ambassador Saleh Omar holds meeting with COMESA Secretary General

The Eritrean Ambassador to South Africa and States in the region, Mr. Saleh Omar, held a meeting in the Zambia capital of Lusaka, with Mr. Sindiso Ngweya, Secretary General of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA).

Asmara, 12 May 2011 – The Eritrean Ambassador to South Africa and States in the region, Mr. Saleh Omar, held a meeting in the Zambia capital of Lusaka, with Mr. Sindiso Ngweya, Secretary General of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA).  

In the meeting, Mr. Saleh pointed out that Eritrea, as member of the World Customs Organization (WCO), is striving to implement COMESA’s programs. In this respect, the Ambassador indicated that Eritrea has already made 80% reduction in tariff.

Mr. Saleh Omar also explained that Eritrea is working closely with member states in line with the ACTESA and CAADP agreements, and that it has registered impressive achievements in domains of food security, expanding health and education services, as well as promoting regional peace.

The Secretary General of COMESA, Mr. Sindiso Ngweya, said on his part that Eritrea is carrying out successful development activities, and that he held discussion on development programs with President Isaias Afwerki during a visit to Eritrea. He further indicated that the required budge has been allocated for launching wide network area so as facilitate the relay of Eritrean development programs to the organization on time.
