Ministry of Health registers commendable progress in upgrading manpower resources

The Ministry of Health has registered impressive achievement in upgrading manpower resources over the past 20 years and that nationals are now able to obtain quality service, stated Dr. Andom Ogbamariam, director general of human resource development.

Asmara, 12 May 2011 – The Ministry of Health has registered impressive achievement in upgrading manpower resources over the past 20 years and that nationals are now able to obtain quality service, stated Dr. Andom Ogbamariam, director general of human resource development.

He said that about 5,297 students out of whom 2,581 females have graduated from schools of assistant nursing in Mendefera, Barentu, Ginda and Asmara, and that they are actively discharging their duties.

Meanwhile, Dr. Andom indicated that the graduation of 31 medical doctors and 8 specialist doctors on the basis of internal capacity are making due contribution in alleviating shortage of skilled manpower. Another 237 students are currently pursuing medical studies, he added.

The director general said that the Ministry has provided first degree program to 157 nationals, additional educational programs to 1,290 skilled health professionals as well as doctorate programs. He further explained that substantial investment would be made to upgrade the capacity of health personals in line with the advancement of technology.
