Preparations to conduct carnival in the Central region on the occasion of Independence Day celebrations have been finalized, according to Mr. Andemariam Gebremedhin, Chairman of the holidays coordinating committee in the region. He pointed out that members of the general public, administrative bodies and institutions, as well as a number of young artists have been making utmost preparations for a long time.
The carnival in which 69 institutions take part would highlight the social, cultural and economic accomplishments registered over the past 20 years.
Likewise, a total of 238 educational institutions ranging from kindergarten to secondary level in the region are marking “Independence Week” beginning May 2 featuring various artistic shows and exhibitions. In this respect, Mr. Andemariam stated that the Week is aimed at familiarizing youths with the challenges traversed and the heroism demonstrated in the struggle for independence.
Preparations are also underway to celebrate the Great Day in 167 community tents on May 23 to 24 so as to give added color to the celebrations. He further called on the general public to enhance participation in the celebrations.
